Hockey: Where do we go from here?

The national Under-21 hockey team made a remarkable comeback to edge Australia 3-2 win inaugural Sultan of Johor Cup in Johor Baru yesterday.

Both teams were tied 2-2 after full time but it was Mohamed Noor Faeezwho scored the winner of the match in extra time.

For reports of the match, read here, here and here.

So where do we go from here?

There were times where the boys played well. There were also times when the boys failed when it comes to simple passes.

K.Dharmaraj or now known as Muhammad Dharma Raj Abdullah has done well to guide his boys for this tournament. Now lets hope for some consistency as a bulk of these lads are expected to graduate into the senior team.

  2. You hit it right on the nail bout consistency. The Sultan of Johor Cup (SJC) is a good yard stick to measure the performance of the Juniors before the Junior Wold Cup (JWC) in 2013, not only for the National Juniors team but other teams preparing for it.

Now lets pat the boys for a job well done, lets count the number of officials who will step up to take credit and how many more will try to reward the boys with stuff.

Yes we are Champions but it does not mean anything if we do not qualify to the JWC at the qualifiers next year. Every team that was here has studies us as we have studies them and come back with better players, better tactics to clinch the seat at the qualifiers.

Most importantly how many players will remain at the qualifiers? and do we have the depth to replace those that have left

  3. It is nice to see and hear the juniors performing well and winning at this level. Congrats to all those who groomed these young up and coming dynamic ones. Eventually they will fill into the shoes of the senior and I am sure they will perform well as they get polished.

However we need to remind ourselves, that to maintain this tempo, we need the next batch on standby and we need grassroots level coaches from the various states to identify young talents and push them to a higher level. The grassroots level coaches who are involved in producing these talents must also be given some recognition for their all their effort. We need this CONSTANT CHURNING of new talents to "fill and refill" in the field of sports.
