Degree in "Bodek-logy"

Image
We live in a society where you don't need to be well educated or good at what you do to climb up the ladder, just a basic degree in 'bodek-logy' will do the trick. However, there isn't any reputable learning institution that offers such a course. It is high time we capitalise on this and start a programme, starting with a 9 month certificate course followed by a two-year diploma and a three year degree programme. We can get experts from most of the National Sports Associations (NSAs) to conduct the lectures. I'm sure they will be happy with the side income. The FA of Malaysia (FAM) is well known to shut the mouths of those who apparently "critise policy matters". Ask Reduan Abdullah and B.Satianathan. The Malaysia Athletics Union (MAU) has jumped on the bandwagon after the national body slapped national hurdler Noraseela Khalid ( pic ) with a show cause letter for allegedly "criticising the MAU management for not appreciating the services and sacrifi...

Twisted weekend

Image
It was an emotional weekend in the world of sports. New Zealand edged France 8-7 to win the Rugby World Cup at home , Manchester United suffered a horrible 6-1 defeat to Manchester City while world No 1 shuttler Lee Chong Wei failed to win the Denmark Open after losing 21-15, 21-18 to Chen Long of China in the men's singles final . It also marked a black spot in the Sepang International Circuit's (SIC) history of hosting the MotoGP after rising star Italian Marco Simoncelli ( pic ) died at Turn 11 in Lap 2. Those who managed to see the final moments of Simoncelli negotiating the lap, especially the visual from Colin Edward's bike before Dorna pulled if off from Youtube, could see how Simoncelli somehow lost control with his left leg raised too high in the air, slipping off his bike into the paths of Edwards and Valentino Rossi. SIC CEO Ahmad Razlan Razali stressed it was an accidental death. HD says: R.I.P Marco. You'll be missed.

When a jersey is too expensive...

Image
...you get a tongue lashing in public. But that only happens in New Zealand. Sports giant adidas has come under fire as they are selling the All-Blacks jersey for NZ$ 220 (RM 549.60). However, the same rugby jersey can be bought in the USA for US$ 79.99 (RM 231.51). According to this article , the cost of making a jersey is estimated at NZ$ 8 (RM 19.98). Watch how broadcast journalist John Campbell grills adidas New Zealand’s country manager David Huggett and adidas Australia’s managing director Greg Kerr about the price of its replica jersey - as seen here . So should we also settle for overly priced jerseys which are made in some factory in Kepong? Note: Special mention to former Mailsport journo Graig Nunis for the video. HD says: Malaysian officials are lucky they are not subjected to such grilling. It'd be interesting to see how they react to such a situation eh.

Karamjit wins NZ race

The heavy rain and low temperatures did not stop Karamjit Singh from winning the 2WD category of the International Rally of Whangerai, New Zealand on 15-17 July. He emerged fourth overall in the 4th Round of the Asia-Pacific Rally Championship. "Tyre choice and driving tactics were important in these conditions which were mostly fast flowing winding stages. It would have been easy to have an incident and be off," Karamjit said. It was even a proud moment for local car manufacturers Proton as Karamjit was powered by a Satria Neo. The next race is the Rally Hokkaido in Japan which starts on September 30. HD says: Way to go Karamjit.
