"Malaysia's first rugby stadium." Really?

This was posted on social media yesterday and was widely reported . Let's look at the history regarding the construction of a rugby stadium in Malaysia. 1. For years, domestic and international rugby matches have been played at the MBPJ Stadium in Kelana Jaya. It must also be noted that several clubs like the Eagles Rugby Club in Sandakan, Sabah have beautiful playing spaces, equipped with the right set up similar to that of a stadium. 2. In Feb, 2010, then Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek revealed there were plans to build a RM35 million rugby stadium in Kota Kinabalu, as reported by The Star . 3. The construction of the stadium did not take off immediately due to several contributing factors including "finding the right site and financial constrains". 4. Today is Awal Muharam - the beginning of the Islamic New Year. It's a public holiday. Hopefully, it will also be the beginning of more Malaysians showing their support to the para athletes competing in the on-going Asean Para Games (which ends tomorrow) by flocking the stands. Former national swimmer Khoo Cai Lin, had yesterday, tweeted: It was indeed a heart breaking message. So as Cai Lin rightfully said: Even other athletes including wushu exponent and SEA Games gold medalist Loh Jack Chang encouraged the masses to support our extraordinary heroes. Let's be inspired by our para athletes .

Paying the price for shoddy workmanship

Haresh Says, as published in Mailsport today. “Terlepas pandang” It simply means oversight. And that line is often shared by a businessman acquaintance whom I have met on several occasions. Each time we meet, the subject of oversight by the authorities crops up.     “You know-lah, when officials want to cover up their mistakes, they will just brush the issue aside and say terlepas pandang. I’ve dealt with so many government agencies and I think those two words are in their text books somewhere,” he joked during our recent chat.
