Unpaid wages in Malaysian football nothing new. But why?

Image
1. The subject of unpaid wages in the Malaysian football scene is nothing new. 2. Every year, just before the new season begins, reports of footballers and coaches not receiving their dues for months hog the limelight. 3. This year is no different. Melaka United Football Association has embarked on a donation drive to raise funds to settle its 2019 debts, as reported b y Berita Harian . 4. In 2011, several Kuala Lumpur fans initiated a Save KLFA campaign following the association's financial woes. The intention was noble but Kuala Lumpur Football Association (KLFA) failed to capitalise on the momentum. Eight years on, KLFA still believes that  placing a politician as its president  will free the association of monetary issues. 5. Long term plans are alien to most sports organisations in Malaysia as its presidents and office bearers are only interested in making an impact, if any, during their term. 6. However, the guardians of Malaysian football had once impleme...

Want to leave M-League? Leave lah

About a week ago four Super League teams and six Premier League outfits were slapped with fines amounting to RM9 million. Why? Failing to complete their registration within the deadline. What makes matters worse is that ... The last day for submission was December 29 last year but was extended TWICE - January 14 and February 3, 2018. But the teams still given another chance... talian hayat terakhir - can appeal within 14 days (before March 20) to reduce fines. So who are the infamous M-League teams who did not complete their registration in time? Super League: Kelantan, Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and PKNS FC - each slapped RM1.5 million in fines. Premier League: Sarawak, Penang, Kuantan FA, Police, MISC-MIFA and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) - fined RM500,00 each for a similar offence. How did the teams react? They cry lah. Whine lah. Sideshows spice up Brazil World Cup

Image
Ultras Tonjol FC, as published in Mailsport today   ALLOW me to first congratulate Police for winning the Premier League title.   Their 4-0 win over Negri Sembilan on Friday night was enough to give them a five-point lead against second-placed Felda United en route to earning a promotion to the Super League next season.   I would like to wish Selangor and Johor Darul Takzim all the best as they play their final matches of the season tomorrow. JDT lead Selangor by one point and will have the advantage as they seek their first league crown.   And now the on-going World Cup.   It has been an exciting start to the 2014 edition as most teams now brace for their challenge in the knockout stage.   Iran, dubbed as ‘Bas Ekspress Iran’ by some, managed a solid performance before they were handed a cruel blow by Lionel Messi, who gave Argentina a 1-0 win and three valuable points. Ghana gave three-time champions Germany a run for th...

Racist taunts hurled at Pahang's Jamaican defender

Image
It has been almost unheard of before but racism is sadly rearing its ugly head in the M-League amidst claims that a Pahang footballer was taunted by players from an opposing team. Pahang FA is expected to report to the FA of Malaysia (FAM) today over alleged racist remarks hurled at their Jamaican defender Damion Stewart by Johor Darul Takzim’s Pablo Aimar and Luciano Figueroa in a Super League match at the Darulmakmur Stadium last Saturday. It is believed this is the first time such a report has been lodged in the history of Malaysian football. It is understood  that Stewart was harassed throughout the match and his Pakistan teammate Zesh Rehman will be the key witness in the report to be submitted today. The source said it was fortunate Stewart kept his cool and did not react angrily during the match, despite being constantly heckled by both the former Argentinean internationals. However, after the match, Stewart attempted to confront Aimar and Figuero but was restrained by team ...

JDT 'missing' tickets mystery

Following frman 's tweets on his Twitter account on Friday, I spoke to several individuals about the missing tickets involving Johor Darul Takzim matches. The article appeared on the backpage of The Malay Mail today. More than 300 M-League tickets involving Johor Darul Takzim (JDT) were reported “missing”,  raising questions about the security of courier services in the country and the lengths individuals will take to make a quick buck from the football fever. Mailsport learnt 308 tickets for six matches involving the Southern Tigers in both the Super League and Malaysia Cup went missing. The star-studded Johor side have been enjoying massive attendances at their home matches throughout the season. The tickets were couriered from Kuala Lumpur to Larkin via Pos Laju. Read more here . HD says: Some folks will go to great lengths to get M-League tickets.

Name a team that plays more football than Kelantan...

Image
...and you'll get a treat from Kelantan coach Bojan Hodak ( pic ). And before the FA of Malaysia (FAM) gets excited and tries to slap Hodak with an Article 88, fret not as he is NOT complaining. As far as Hodak is concerned, being good comes with a price as the Red Warriors are playing in numerous tournaments (Super League, FA Cup and AFC Cup) at one go. Unlike his counterpart in Selangor Irfan Bakti, Hodak insists he is treating all competitions with equal importance. Read the full article in Mailsport . Irfan, meanwhile, has set his sights on the FA Cup. Having wounded the Darul Takzim FC, better known as the Southern Tigers, in the first leg of the FA Cup quarterfinals, Irfan is expecting the southern team to bounce back and he would love the challenge. Read Irfan's take here . HD says: Very difficult to talk these days.

Johor's three key ingredients

Image
Discipline, dedication and integrity. Johor FA president Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim believes those are the three key ingredients that will ensure the success of southern teams Johor and Johor United. For the record, Super League outfit Johor FC will now play as Johor while the Premier League Johor FA team will be known as Johor United next season. Fandi Ahmad will play team manager cum chief coach for Johor with Ismail Ibrahim as coach. Azmi Mohamed, meanwhile, is the coach for Johor United. Among the players that will don the colours of Johor next year include former Spain national player Daniel Guiza ( pic ), Norshahrul Idlan Talaha, Muslim Ahmad and the Abdul Radzak twins -Aidil Zafuan and Zaquan Adha. The unification of both teams was expected based on my meeting with the Johor prince in March as seen here . It will be interesting to note Johor and Johor United's progression in their respective leagues. Johor FC were placed ninth in the Super League while Johor F...

LionsXII 9 Sabah 0

Image
Singapore's LionsXII thrashed Sabah 9-0 in a Super League match last night. Is there so much of difference in the standard of play among the Super League teams? Are the Singaporeans that strong? Is Sabah that weak? I didn't watch the match so I rather not comment. But to lose 9-0? You tell me what is wrong with that scoreline. Read here and here for the match reports. Akmal is desperate...

Image
Update: Akmal scores two goals as Perak defeated Negri Sembilan 2-1. --------- ...for the right reasons. He has not scored a goal yet as Perak host Negri Sembilan at the Perak Stadium in Ipoh in their third match in the Super League tonight (kick off 8.45pm). Akmal Rizal Rakhli ( pic ) is eager to place his name in the score sheet and gun for the golden boot at the end of the season. Akmal did shine last season and despite some claim he has "passed his prime", the modest and humble Akmal is eager to silence his critics. As the fans would say, Kejor Yob Kejor. Read more of Akmal in today's Mailsport . Prediction for today's matches. Perak v Negri Sembilan Prediction: 1-1 Felda United v Selangor Prediction: 1-2 Sarawak v Terengganu Prediction: 0-2 T-Team v Sabah Prediction: 2-0 LionsXII v KL Prediction: 2-0 PKNS v Kedah Prediction: 2-1 Kelantan v Johor FC Prediction: 3-1 HD says: It's been awhile since I balik Taiping. Hmm...

Let the games begin

The Super League (football) starts tonight. The main attraction would surely be the match between Singapore's LionsXII and Kelantan at the Jalan Besar Stadium in Singapore. Fresh from winning the Sultan Ahmad Shah Cup, Negeri Sembilan are eager to prove their worth by defeating Selangor at the Paroi Stadium tonight. Here are my match ups as published in today's Mailsport. Negri Sembilan v Selangor (Paroi Stadium, 8.45pm) Fresh from winning the Sultan Ahmad Shah Cup, Negri are determined to prove their win was no flash in the pan. Despite a string of ‘youngsters’, the Deers are capable of outplaying Selangor in Paroi. Nevertheless, Selangor are eager to start on a good footing and could settle for a draw. Prediction: Negri Sembilan 1 Selangor 1 Perak v Terengganu (Perak Stadium, 8.45pm) Terengganu may have enjoyed success last season but they have lost several players and would now have to start fresh. Perak, meanwhile, still have the majority of last year’s players inc...

KL desperate for ca$h

UPDATE 12.30pm - I have started a 'SAVE KLFA CAMPAIGN' and have pledged RM100 to get the ball rolling. Money collected will be channeled to KLFA at their office in Cheras Stadium. Money is meant for developing KL football especially at the grassroots. I've posted the same thing on twitter as well. Cheques can be addressed to PERSATUAN BOLA SEPAK KUALA LUMPUR. --- It may seem that everyone is fixated over the Sea Games football final between Indonesia and Malaysia tonight (8.30pm kick off). Not the guys in KL FA though. KL is still scouting for funds and has even gone to the extent of obtaining the services of a company to bring in the money. Apparently, during its last council meeting, it was agreed that a 'certain monetary cut' will be handed to those who are able to secure sponsors. Despite submitting their proposals to major companies all over, KLFA have not heard any good news from any party - or so I have been told. KLFA are also willing to place the corporate...
