Gyms apparently can open tomorrow but pending SOP. Huh?!

Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Ti Lian Ker was quoted by The Star as there would be some additional SOP for gyms and sports facility operators.

“Once the SOP has been gazetted and published, the operators are allowed to open.”

"There were some initial concerns by the Health Ministry about ventilation issues but these are being resolved."

And here's the feedback I received following my tweet earlier today:

Ti's ministry has yet to provide any clarification regarding his statement.

For starters, Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin had on Sept 8 tweeted:

“This will not take long but because of the nature of indoor fitness centres, we must stress certain ventilation requirements, working on it urgently.”

Read MoH working on ventilation guidelines for reopening of gyms, says Khairy.

So what's the new ventilation requirement? And clearly it's not finalised as per Ti's quote. So how can gymnasiums open for business tomorrow?

Also, clearly gymnasium operators have not been informed, as per my tweet. Why?

First paragraph of The Star report said:

Gyms in states under Phase Two and Three of the National Recovery Plan will be allowed to operate starting Friday (Sept 17) and only those who are fully vaccinated are allowed in, says Datuk Seri Ti Lian Ker.

While paragraph seven read:

“Once the SOP has been gazetted and published, the operators are allowed to open,” he (Ti) said.

Shouldn't an announcement be only made once the SOP is finalised and published?

And at about 9.17pm, Ti tweeted:

Haiya, why make things so complicated, leh??!?

Does this mean The Star got it wrong?

Ti, we need to meet up over some Raub durian and discuss about this.
