Fauja: 'Running is my medicine'

It was more than just a run. Participants of the Chardikala Charitable Fun Run braved the heavy rain to get a glimpse of the world’s oldest marathon runner Fauja Singh who flagged off the 5km race at the Astaka Field, Petaling Jaya yesterday evening. The event attracted more than 1,000 participants with several runners from Kenya, Japan, India and Malaysia. Also present was Olympic Council of Malaysia secretary Datuk Sieh Kok Chi. Fauja, who is 101-years-old, was still in good spirits despite having ran in the Standard Chartered 10km Run in Singapore earlier in the day before visiting PJ. “Running is my medicine so I have to continue running,” said an expressive Fauja. “I am very happy to be here and I wish more people will take up running. Run with Fauja Singh

His name is Fauja Singh . He is 101-years-old. And he still runs. The UK-based 'veteran' runner has participated in New York City marathon, London Flora marathon, Toronto Waterfront Marathon and the 2012 Hong Kong 10km run. He was also involved in the London Olympic torch run. Dubbed as Turbaned Tornado - as per the name of his biography - Fauja has been an inspiration to many and even appeared on several adidas advertisements.  Fauja will be in Petaling Jaya on Dec 2 as he participates in the Chardikala Run - a 5km charity run. 'Turbaned Torpedo' does it again.

The Hong Kong Marathon served a high and low to runners worldwide. UK citizen Fauja Singh ( pic ), who at the age of 100, completed the 10km race in nearly one hour and 34 minutes. Nicknamed Turbaned Torpedo, Fauja raised 200,000 Hong Kong dollars (RM 77,636) for charity through the event. Read more of Fauja here .
