The countdown begins!

The national team left for Hanoi yesterday as they are scheduled to play Vietnam in a friendly match tomorrow before taking on Thailand in another friendly game in Chiang Mai on Nov 7. Malaysia coach K.Rajagobal admitted he already has his list of 22 players in mind but would still want the players to display their best during the two friendly matches before registering them for the AFF Suzuki Cup later this month. According to Indonesia FA's (PSSI) website, Sudan is expected to play Malaysia on Nov 17 . The team from Sudan will play Indonesia earlier (on Nov 14). Speaking about Indonesia, former Selangor hitman Bambang Pamungkas joined his team mates for their training session as he is expected to see some action in the tournament. He was quoted by Jakarta Globe as saying; "I came from my home to join the Indonesian national team training camp. As a professional, I hope that the Indonesian football dualism ends here. Safee's dilemma

UPDATE 2.19pm: "Both Safee (Sali) and I met Alex Soosay (AFC general secretary) earlier today and he was shocked with this whole episode. He assured us that AFC will send PSSI a letter to explain their actions. We then met FAM secretary general Azzudin Ahmad to again explain the situation and he agreed with our explanation. Safee is now free to join his team mates for training and he is expected to train this evening." - Safee Sali's manager Zack Rahim. --------  "We adhered to Fifa's rules and they have made a decision since last year but now the matter in Indonesia has hit the wall. UPDATE (Feb 4) : AFC held a Media get-together at Bangsar Shopping Centre yesterday. AFC gen sec Alex Soosay said; The player has signed a contract with the club and there are legal implications there. All the players, clubs and the national body are at a high risk of being suspended. Fifa will take very strong action and is liable to impose sanctions if the PSSI does not bring the rebel league under its control. Nevertheless, Safee went on to sign another two-year deal with Pelita Jaya FC valued more than RM2 million - despite the possibility of him not being able to play for the country. Safee Sali has decided to stay on with Pelita Jaya FC in the Indonesian Super League with a more than RM2 million deal over the next two years. But it could also mean he may not don the national jersey - if ISL and the Indonesian FA (PSSI) mess is not sorted out by end of March.
