Sud...

We've heard so much of Zulfadli Zulkifli. He is the first ever Malaysian to be the World and Asian junior champion and won both titles in the same year. Some of us have also heard about his father cum coach Zulkifli Sidek. But what about his mother Hanny Pranatyo ( pic )? Just like any other loving mother, Hanny gave up her job to dedicate her life to her three children. "I’ve sacrificed a lot but I have no complaints," said Hanny. Read all about Hanny , Zulkifli and Zulfadli as a full page has been dedicated to the family in today's Mailsport. Note: Pic was snapped by The Malay Mail's Arif Kartono HD says: It was fun talking to Zulkifli and Hanny.

BAM: We want Zulfadli to stay

Image
Mailsport highlighted that Zulfadli Zulkifli has been lured by the USA Badminton Association to play for the USA as seen here . SS Dhaliwal, had in his blog, questioned Zulfadli's much awaited reward since last year as seen through the title of his blog post 'Why the delay NSC?' The BA of Malaysia (BAM) would now want to reward Zulfadli through their own incentive scheme and is hoping Zulfadli will stay put in Malaysia. Read BAM secretary Ng Chin Chai's ( pic ) thoughts here . Most players would not think twice to play for USA. It's even easier for LA-born Zulfadli since his dad has been living there since his varsity days and even coached the US team in the early 90s. Zulkifli knows most of the players and US BA officials there. Let's give Zulfadli a darn good reason to stay put in the country. And this isn't about money where the USA will be able to offer more. HD says: Life isn't all about money. It's about paying respect and acknowledging a perso...

Zulfadli's US connection

Image
Zulfadli Zulkifli ( pic ) has been the pride of the nation since winning the World and Asian junior championships this year. But Zulfadli is from KLRC and some believe he is guilty by association. Perhaps that explains why he has not received his incentives since last year. Zulfadli isn't complaining nor is he threatening but he has been approached by the USA Badminton Association to exercise his right to be a US citizen and play for Uncle Sam. Zulfadli says he wants to play for malaysia nevertheless. Hmm... Read more in today's Mailsport . HD says: USA, the land of opportunities?

Junior shuttlers, Nicol win World titles

Image
It was a great day for squash and badminton. World No 1 Nicol David won her sixth World Open title after beating Jenny Duncalf 11-2, 11-5, 11-0 in less than half an hour. Nicol's win was expected. Meanwhile, national junior shuttler Zulfadli Zulkifli ( pic ) inked history by bagging the World junior title after beating Denmark's Viktor Axelsen 21-18, 9-21, 21-19 in the boys singles final. Joining Zulfadli on the podium were Nelson Wei Keat-Teo Ee Yi as they won the boys doubles title after defeating top seeds Huang Po Jui and Lin Chia Yu of Taiwan 21-17, 21-17 in another final. So where do they go from here? Before we get carried away, let's ensure the juniors enjoy proper guidance en route to molding them into world champions of the future. We seem to do great at the age-group tournaments but fizzle out at the senior level.. Also, let's be mindful that other countries in the region are also catching up. Indonesia, a country which are still banking on their more seas...
