by gun in truck

Image
As published in Malay Mail today By Haresh Deol
haresh@mmail.com.my KUALA LUMPUR — Striker Safee Sali has been gunned down by a gun and live bullets find in his pickup truck.   He told Johor Baru police he had sent his vehicle to a workshop to fix some accessories. A man driving his green Ford Ranger has been arrested.   Fresh from winning the FA Cup final, the Johor Darul Ta’zim footballer and his teammates were on their way to Johor Baru yesterday when he received a phone call that police had found a gun in his pickup truck.   Police had stopped the vehicle, driven by a 4x4 accessories workshop owner, at a roadblock near the Kempas exit at the North-South Expressway at noon yesterday.   They found a Smith & Wesson pistol and 30 live bullets in a yellow bag on the back seat of the vehicle.  “I was in the bus with my teammates in a joyous mood after beating PKNS 2-1 in the final,” Safee said.    “As we left Segam...

Safee eager for better show, RIP Subramaniam

Image
It was not the entrance national striker Safee Sali ( pic ) had in mind. Just as he replaced Azamuddin Akil in the 70th minute, Bahrain’s Ismaeel Abdul-Latif scored the solitary goal (71st minute) of the match in the Asian Cup qualifying match last Friday. “Suwey betul la (what bad luck),” was Safee’s immediate reaction. “I’m not happy at all. I entered the field and our opponents scored. I don’t want to see such a thing happening again.” Meanwhile, the late A. Subramaniam ( pic below ), who passed away on Saturday night, was a firm believer in developing young talents. To him, the base needs to be strengthened before one can achieve better results at the higher level. During his short stint as Federal Territory Amateur Athletics Association (FTAAA) president, he introduced plans to promote the sport at grassroot level. "He was always about development, development, development. He was eager to see more youngsters getting into athletics," recalled FTAAA secretar...

Selangor on shopping spree; Raja stays neutral about Malaysia Cup final

Image
Selangor having failed in their ‘mission 33’ to wrest the Malaysia Cup after last winning it in 2005, have not wasted any time in preparing for the new season. They have already signed former Selangor player Mehmet Durakovic as head coach, after having failed to secure B. Satianathan. FA of Selangor deputy president Datuk Mokhtar Ahmad confi rmed the appointment of Australian Durakovic earlier this week and also disclosed he will be bringing two players with him — a midfi elder and defender. Mokhtar said talks have also been held with national striker Safee Sali while they are also on the lookout for a goalkeeper coach. The three goalkeeper coaches in the race are former Selangor and Czech World Cup custodian, Karel Stromsik, former national goalkeepers Khairul Azman Mohamed, currently with Johor Darul Takzim and Selangor’s Azilsham Ibrahim, now with Pahang.   “Safee has indicated his interest in playing for Selangor, but he will have to sort out his status with JDT a...

Kelantan juara Piala FA

Image
Doubtful indeed...

Wan Zack Haikal Wan Nor ( pic ) - Out Safee Sali - Doubtful Khyrill Muhymeen Zambari - Doubtful S.Kunalan - Recovering (unsure if he will be in the right temperament and fully fit for the semi finals) National coach K.Rajagobal was quoted by Bernama as saying; "Saya tidak mahu mengambil risiko dengan menyenaraikan Wan Zack Haikal pada kedua-dua perlawanan nanti terutamanya perlawanan separuh akhir pertama pada Ahad ini (di Stadium Nasional Bukit Jalil).

Harap maklum, terima kasih & maaf mengganggu.  ----- 1. Kenapa Persatuan Bola Sepak Malaysia (FAM) menetapkan 6 Dis 2012 sebagai tarikh tutup pendaftaran pemain sedangkan pemain-pemain negara terlibat dalam pertandingan Piala AFF? 2. Takkan FAM ti...

Laos 1 Malaysia 4

Image
Malaysia defeated Laos 4-1 in the second group match in the AFF Cup. Both teams were tied to a 1-1 draw in the first half. The goals for Malaysia came from Safiq Rahim, Safee Sali ( pic ), Wan Zack Haikal and Khyril Muhymeen Zambri. So will we now see a video of 'fans' singing 'Thank you Rajagobal'? Earlier Indonesia managed a 1-0 win over Singapore. It will certainly be an interesting clash between Malaysia and Indonesia this Saturday. HD says: What say you?

Malaysia 1 Hong Kong 1 - Still got time

Image
"Ranking tidak penting" - So it doesn't matter that Malaysia, ranked 163 in the Fifa standings , were held to a 1-1 draw against a lower ranked Hong Kong (172) in a friendly match at the Shah Alam Stadium last night. An " experiment " perhaps? - That could have been running through the mind of defender Aidil Zafuan Abdul Radzak after his unexplainable back pass to goalkeeper Khairul Fahmi Che Mat was intercepted by a Hong Kong player that resulted the equaliser in the dying minutes of the match. It was a mistake indeed but certainly one would not expect such a child-like error from an experienced defender like Aidil. For the record, Malaysia's goal was scored by Safee Sali ( pic ) in the 58th minute. Third time lucky? - We lost 1-0 to Vietnam, 2-0 to Thailand and managed a 1-1 draw against Hong Kong. Then again, why be so judgmental now when the real test awaits the team once the AFF Cup starts proper. Oh, if you like romantic movies, do watch the 1...

Safee's dilemma

Image
UPDATE 2.19pm: "Both Safee (Sali) and I met Alex Soosay (AFC general secretary) earlier today and he was shocked with this whole episode. He assured us that AFC will send PSSI a letter to explain their actions. We then met FAM secretary general Azzudin Ahmad to again explain the situation and he agreed with our explanation. Safee is now free to join his team mates for training and he is expected to train this evening." - Safee Sali's manager Zack Rahim. --------  "We adhered to Fifa's rules and they have made a decision since last year but now the matter in Indonesia has hit the wall. Fifa, being the guardian body, has the authority to disband member associations...no one else does." Those were the words of FAM secretary general Azzudin Ahmad when met at the sidelines after Armed Forces edged LionsXII 5-4 in penalty kicks to book a berth to the Malaysia Cup final after both teams were tied at 1-1 (aggregate 2-2) at the Selayang Stadium last night....

Safee pamer erti sebenar profesionlisme

Image

Safee unaware of PFAM.

Image
National striker Safee Sali has called for the setting up of a professional football players association to look into their welfare and rights.   Safee, who plays for Indonesian club Pelita Jaya, said this was necessary as Malaysian football was undergoing a transformation and players needed an active body to protect their interests. “The recent controversy involving two Terengganu players highlights the need for such an association. “I sympathise with them for having to put up with such a shameful situation,” he said at the ‘SYM Hari Raya Open House with Safee Sali’ in Alma yesterday. That was taken from a Bernama report. Perhaps our top national striker is unaware of the Professional Footballers Association of Malaysia. Then again, does anyone know about PFAM? I remember writing about its existence last year - PFAM...who? And to refresh one's memory - this was written by Tony Mariadass in 2009 - For the sake (sale) of the Game? HD says: Everyone wants...

FAM: It is his choice.

Image
UPDATE (Feb 4) : AFC held a Media get-together at Bangsar Shopping Centre yesterday. AFC gen sec Alex Soosay said; The player has signed a contract with the club and there are legal implications there. All the players, clubs and the national body are at a high risk of being suspended. Fifa will take very strong action and is liable to impose sanctions if the PSSI does not bring the rebel league under its control. Read more here . --------- The FA of Malaysia (FAM) have met Safee Sali numerous times. They have explained the situation enveloping the Indonesian FA (PSSI) and the Indonesian Super League (ISL). Nevertheless, Safee went on to sign another two-year deal with Pelita Jaya FC valued more than RM2 million - despite the possibility of him not being able to play for the country. Read FAM: It's his choice . A little bird told me that Safee could escape the mess nevertheless and still enjoy the big bucks. The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) are expected to meet the Media in B...

Between $ and country...

Safee Sali has decided to stay on with Pelita Jaya FC in the Indonesian Super League with a more than RM2 million deal over the next two years. But it could also mean he may not don the national jersey - if ISL and the Indonesian FA (PSSI) mess is not sorted out by end of March. A ban by Fifa could see Safee missing out from the AFF Cup hosted by Malaysia later this year. Malaysian won the 2010 edition. Read Big Bucks for Safee, Safee hits the jackpot , and Jutawan Safee . Safee gets a lifeline, Ahmad Shabery disappointed

Image
The FA of Malaysia (FAM) are willing to make exceptions if national hitman Safee Sali ( pic ) wishes to return to Malaysia once his contract with Pelita Jaya FC expires on Jan 31. This include allowing Safee to sign up with any M-League team despite the registration date has passed. The situation in Indonesia remains messy and if nothing is being done to solve the matter, then Safee should ditch plans of playing in the Republic and ply his trade elsewhere. FAM vice-president Hamidin Amin even said that his former team Selangor are ever willing to snap him up and there are many other teams in the M-League that could use his services. Meanwhile, Sports Ministry Ahmad Shabery Cheek wore a frustrated look and took a swipe at the Malaysian Athletics Union and the Malaysian Weightlifting Federation for their inaction over the doping fiasco at the Indonesia Sea Games. Two national athletes - one from the 4x400m men's relay gold medal team and the other a weightlifter - were found positi...

Safee says...

Image
I remember covering Safee Sali ( pic ) extensively during his early days with Selangor. I was fixated over him that my colleagues poked fun each time I wrote an article about him. I knew he'd go far, and Safee didn't disappoint. While this is being written, Safee is probably still in the plane as he heads to UK for a two-week trial with Cardiff City. In between meeting some individuals at lunch yesterday and members of the Press before leaving the country (11.30pm, KLIA), Safee spared some time as we had a quick chat about his stint there. Safee is still in the state of shock as he recaps the moment he was told about the stint. He shares his emotions as published in today's Mailsport . HD says: All the best Safee.
