Let's do the maths

Latest (11.02pm): Negri Sembilan staged a come back to edge Terengganu 2-1 in the Malaysia Cup final at the Shah Alam Stadium.

Let's study the scenarios below.

1) Bukan sengaja mahu mencipta alasan, sebaliknya kos membaiki permukaan padang menjadi punca utama Persatuan Bola Sepak Malaysia (FAM) terpaksa meletakkan harga tiket kepada RM 50 bagi semua tempat duduk untuk aksi final Piala Malaysia esok. - Utusan Malaysia

- Harian Metro

3) He (FAM general secretary Azzudin Ahmad) said the issue on the ticket price being too high did not arise as it has been agreed to by the football associations of both states. - Bernama

Now let's look into these details

1) FAM will first collect between RM450,000 to RM500,000 as levy followed by 30 percent of the remaining money from the gate collection.

2) The balance of the money (35 percent each) will only be then divided to Terengganu and Negri Sembilan FAs equally.

3) None of the state FAs agreed to the Malaysia Cup final ticket price of RM50 . They were only informed of the price. The ticketing committee dictates the price as stated in Article 56 of the FAM statute.

Now let's do the maths.

Based on Bernama's report, 54,000 tickets have been sold thus far while the remaining 16,000 tickets will be sold at the Shah Alam Stadium today.

Let's use 54,000 tickets sold as an example.

54,000 x RM50 = RM2.7 million

RM2.7 million - RM500,000 (levy to FAM) = RM2.2 million

30% (FAM) of RM2.2 million = RM660,000 (FAM)

RM2.2 million - RM660,000 = RM1.54 million

RM1.54 million / 2 (Terengganu and Negri Sembilan FAs) = RM770,000 (to each FA).

Therefore FAM will pocket [RM 500,000 (levy) + RM660,000 (30%)] = RM1.16 million.

Eg. Negri Sembilan FA (NS FA) sold 24,000 tickets.

Therefore 24,000 x RM50 = RM1.2 million

However, they will only get RM770,000.

Since NS FA are subsidising RM20 per ticket (fans pay RM30), they have spent RM480,000 on subsidies alone.

RM770,000 - RM480,000 = RM 290,000

That's the total Negri Sembilan will make for this year's Malaysia Cup.

Could this equation be wrong?

P/s: FAM's website is up and running. It certainly looks better than before.

HD says: All the best to Terengganu and Negeri Sembilan. May the best team win.
