As the Olympics finally came to an end, here are some of the most memorable and not so memorable quotes from the Games.

“I tried really hard and am sorry not to have won. I played better than I did in Beijing or the World Championships but it seems that I’m destined to play bridesmaid to Lin Dan." - Lee Chong Wei after losing to Lin Dan in the badminton men's singles final.

"I'm sorry about that video, I know nothing about that song too, I am here to say sorry to every one, hopefully Chinese fans can forgive this." - Lee Chong Wei on Namewee's video clip which was insulting Lin Dan.

"LIN DAN wins. He played better than Lee Chong AWAY." - Kota Alam Shah assemblyman M. Manoharan after Chong Wei lost in the final.

"I deeply regret the comments I have made and tender my heartfelt apologies to Datuk Lee Chong Wei and his family."- Kota Alam Shah assemblyman M. Manoharan after receiving flak for his earlier comments.

“People may have different opinions but I feel that we didn’t spend enough.” - National Sports Council director general Zolkples Embong on the RM20 million spent to prepare national athletes from various sports for the Olympics as reported in The Star

“But in my recent chats with him (diving coach Yang Zhuliang) the coach has said that he would like to go back to Australia. I hope NSC can talk him out of it." - Pandelela Rinong

“I couldn’t even call her (mother) with the news as she was on the flight home. It would have been great if she could have stayed just one more day to see me win the medal." - Pandelela Rinong on her mother missing out to watch her bronze medal effort in the women's 10m platform final.

"What has happened has happened. I gave my best and there is no reason to apologise." - Noraseela Khalid days after her "disappointing performance" at the Olympics.

"On the whole, I am satisfied with my performance in London. I could feel my girl kicked in the womb during the tournament." - pregnant national shooter Nur Suryani Taibi.

"These were happy and glorious Games." - International Olympic Committee President Jacques Rogge hails London 2012 as he closes the Games with a reference to Britain's national anthem and Queen Elizabeth's Diamond Jubilee year.

"It's what I came here to do, I'm now a legend." - Jamaica's Usain Bolt permits the world to proclaim him a sporting legend after becoming the first man to retain the 100- and 200 meters titles.

"The female body is a masterpiece. Everyone likes to look at the female body, especially in dynamic, athletic sport." - Australia's Natalie Cook (pic), gold medalist at Sydney in 2000, defends bikinis in beach volleyball.

"My results come from hard work and training and I would never use any banned drugs. The Chinese people have clean hands." - Chinese swimmer Ye Shiwen brushes aside doping suspicions raised after the 16-year-old set a world record in the women's 400 meters individual medley.

"'Inspire a generation' is our motto. Not necessarily 'Create a generation', which is what they sometimes get up to in the Olympic village." - London Mayor Boris Johnson extols the "energy and enthusiasm" of the Games' 10,000 athletes, to whom some 150,000 condoms were distributed.
