Tengku Abdullah wants Subahan as hockey chief

As published in Mailsport today. By Vijhay Vick vijhayvick@mmail.com.my PETALING JAYA — Selangor HA (SHA) president Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal (pic) is the front runner to be the next Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) president. Former MHC general manager Maninderjit Singh is tipped to make a return as chief executive officer. According to sources within the national body, out-going MHC president Tengku Abdullah Shah has earmarked the Subahan as his replacement. Subahan’s first task would be to improved MHC’s financial standing as the association is believed to be RM2 million in debt. “Subahan will be the next president. Tengku Abdullah has already spoken to Subahan, who has agreed to come on aboard,” said a senior MHC official. “They even went to the Asian Games together and Tengku Abdullah was introducing him as the next president.” In August, Tengku Abdullah revealed he would not seek re-election as he was going for the Asian Hockey Federation’s top post. He then ...

Main sponsor to pull out?

The Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) could see itself losing a key main sponsor judging from the outcome of this year's Razak Cup tournament. Word has it that the main sponsor is apparently "not pleased" with the lack of promotion of the 50th edition of the prestigious tournament and were even "caught off guard" with the rescheduling of the final which was apparently slatted for Tuesday (tomorrow) before it was brought forward tonight (8.30pm). Many are still baffled to how the final is played on a weekday and if arrangements have been made for current Prime Minister Najib Razak to attend the final in honour of the tournament named after his father. MHC president Tengku Abdullah was earlier quoted by Bernama as saying that there is a need to "review the Razak Cup format" due to the huge gaps between participating teams. Hopefully, MHC would able to keep their sponsors happy for the benefit of the sport. Pic from MalaysianHockey . HD say...

Main Hoki Cincai

"Teams that suffered huge losses to Kuala Lumpur, like the 6-1 drubbing of Perak yesterday, shows that some teams are not well prepared. So, I hope the oldest hockey tournament in the country can be given serious attention by teams." Those were the words of Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) president Tengku Abdullah Shah after witnessing a Razak Cup match in Kuantan on Sunday. Scorelines can be misleading but it is the quality dished out by the teams which is important. And the Pahang Prince must have unimpressed with what he saw over the weekend. There were also scores of 5-2 and 10-0 registered yesterday as Malaysian Hockey provides the results in "good faith". Let's be real. State teams hardly had time to beef up their squads as most of the players were involved in the recently concluded Malaysian Hockey League. Then there was a two-day national training camp prior the Razak Cup. So can they be blamed? Also, it is the 50th Razak Cup tournament...

Razak Cup premier no more?

Image
It was named after the second Prime Minister of Malaysia Abdul Razak Hussein . It is said to be the premier hockey tournament in the country. This year marks the 50 th anniversary of the prestigious tournament. Yet, there seems to be the feeling that the Razak Cup is just “another” fixture in the national hockey calendar – a tournament that has to be organised just for the sake of it. Aren't most of the best state players currently training with their respective clubs for the upcoming Malaysian Hockey League which is set to commence on Sept 1? The MHL ends on Oct 10 while the Razak Cup begins four days later (Oct 14) in Kuantan. Will the states have enough time to train their full team - with the inclusion of their club players - hardly three days prior the Razak Cup? Will this be fair to the sponsors who are surely wanting leverage from the tournament but will end up getting a bunch of state teams with substandard quality of hockey? I wonder wh...
