The question that was posed recently: “So who are you rooting for?” The question I would like to ask: “What is being part of the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) all about?” To me, being part of OCM is about upholding the Olympic movement and promoting sports - and as such it should be run by people who have sports and the Olympic movement in their minds and hearts. Is there a conspiracy to oust certain “unfriendly” individuals from the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM)? OCM members will cast their votes on June 22 to select office bearers for the 2013-2015 term. Talks within Wisma OCM, however, suggests that certain quarters want “their list of candidates” to win the elections. OCM officials are often at loggerheads with several individuals from agencies within the Sports Ministry. However, former OCM vice president Ibrahim Saad said such practices should not occur. “If true, then I am disappointed. Asian Football Confederation (AFC) members will cast votes at a leading hotel in Kuala Lumpur tomorrow in a bid to elect a new president. The race is between four candidates — United Arab Emirates’ Yousuf Al Serkal, Saudi Hafez Al Medlej, Bahrain’s Sheikh Salman Ebrahim Al-Khalifa and Worawi Makudi of Thailand. It could be 'dirty' but to call it the dirtiest can only be justified if one has facts, figures and evidence of previous elections and the current election to compare and prove it is indeed the dirtiest. If the ruling government wins, especially if it wins 2/3 majority, the critics will say the election was rigged. If the ruling government loses, they will be seen as having lost the war. The same can be said about the FA of Malaysia (FAM). Think about it. Malaysia defeated Sri Lanka 6-0 - the national team's first win this year. However, some had been cynical about the match.
