Art of unity

Some of the bikes by Beautiful Machines displayed at the Art of Speed over the weekend. The Art of Speed entered into its sixth edition last weekend, featuring some of the best works from our local custom builders. Industry players including Triumph, Kawasaki, Harley Davidson, Honda and Ducati joined in the fun as they showcased their machines during the two-day affair at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS). Custom-bike builders Beautiful Machines stamped their mark as several of their creations were shortlisted for awards with 'Kuro' being named the Best Cafe Racer award. Meet Kuro - Picture by Beautiful Machines The gorgeous customised machines from Zero Engineering were surprisingly missing from the show. The event drew some 45,000 enthusiasts, young and old. A great effort by the organisers but motoring fans were torn between the Penang Bike Week 2017 and a party by The Gasket Alley on Saturday night. Awie at the Penang Bike Week. - Pictu...

A Trophy you would want to keep

Image
This is not your average motorcycle review. This is neither a bodek (flattering) posting. I love my Kawasaki Vulcan 800A. I call it Pat-Poh, mainly due to the sound it makes (although in Cantonese it means busybody). I never really fancied plastic bikes with tupperwares everywhere. But the Triumph Trophy changed my perception towards touring motorcycles. It oozes elegance and is certainly an eye-candy. And I have been shamelessly ogling at the bike for long time, much to the annoyance of the good folks at Triumph Malaysia. After months of admiring the beauty of the Trophy from afar, like a child who has been eying for a particular toy all along, I finally got my chance of riding the demo motorcycle, thanks to Fast Bikes Sdn Bhd chief operating officer Razak Al-Malique. I will not pretend to be a motoring expert by explaining the technical bits that powers the Trophy. I will simply give you an honest assessment of my riding experience. Day 1 I asked Malique if the de...

Over 400 gentlemen ready for distinguished ride

Image
As published in Malay Mail today. KUALA LUMPUR — Forget denim jeans and leather jackets. Get Steppenwolf’s "Born to be Wild" out of your head. Instead, imagine gentlemen donning suits and neck ties. Some may have their better half dressed immaculately as pillon riders on custom and classic motorcycles — accompanied to the tune of Frank Sinatra’s "New York, New York". Such a sight will be seen worldwide tomorrow as thousands of riders in 57 countries will participate in the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride 2014. In Malaysia, more than 300 riders have registered for the event on the official website but organiser of the Kuala Lumpur chapter Naked 13 Cafe Racer are expecting more than 450 motorcycles to hit the streets in and around the city. Several enthusiasts have also organised another leg in Kuching. The ride is a campaign to support research of prostate cancer. The international organisers had earlier aimed a fundraising goa...

Riding to raise runds for prostate cancer

Image
Dear all, Globally more men are affected by prostate cancer than women are by breast cancer. Each year, one in nine men develop prostate cancer, and close to 500,000 men will die from the disease.  On Sunday the 28th of September, I am going to press my cravat, polish my brogues and motor along in the 2014 Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride to help find a cure for prostate cancer.  Why? Because over 1,300 men a day die of prostate cancer worldwide. And that’s just not cricket. Your donation will help The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride reach its goal of $US1 million to fund research into a cure for a disease that claims far too many gentlemen each and every year. So be a sport and sponsor my ride — thank you ever so much! For those intending to donate for the cause, please visit this link. If I am able to raise funds through my participation, that would be more meaningful. I have set a modest target of US$100 (RM317). If I can achieve that target...
