No President's Cup tournament in 2013?

UPDATE 11pm: From Bernama; The FA of Malaysia (FAM) is not allowing club sides to compete in the President's Cup tournament from 2013 to 2016. FAM vice-president Datuk Afandi Hamzah said this decision was made by FAM's Executive Council recently and was aimed at giving more opportunities to states to produce back up players for their respective teams.  "The President's Cup next season will be limited to 16 teams including two invited teams which are the Bukit Jalil and Bandar Penawar sports schools and will be played on the league format." ---------- "Nope, we've not heard of such a thing. As far as we're concerned the tournament will still be held and even if anyone decides on such a matter, it must be tabled before the Exco and we will collectively discuss about it before a decision can be made." Those were the words of FA of Malaysia vice president Subahan Kamal when contacted yesterday. Subahan was contacted after efforts to spe...

The fate of the President's Cup

Image
It was once known as the Burnley Cup. Reforms and years later, it is now known as the President's Cup . A youth tournament which is believed to unearth talents and as a stepping stone before the players graduate into the professional circle, the President's Cup does not get the attention it deserves. In fact, it is hardly on the radar that makes it easier for bookies to approach the youngsters in a bid to fix matches. Sad but true. Then we have teams who fail to pay their players' wages on time. It is not like these President Cup footballers are making millions. Perak won this year's President Cup after edging NS Betaria 1-0 in the final. The solitary goal was courtesy of Perak skipper Muhd Nurridzuan Abu Hassan. Read more in Sinar Harian and The Star . It was disappointing to note that even the FA of Malaysia did not have any write up about the final. Instead, it was just a headline that read Perak Juara coupled with the score line as seen here . "Saya masih ingat lagi apabila saya berada depan DB. Saya merayu pada mereka. Saya bagitau diaorang, baik saya ditikam, ditanam dan kubur saya disimenkan daripada kena gantung seumur hidup." Those were the words of former Negri Sembilan President's Cup coach Yusarman Yusof ( pic ) who I managed to contact yesterday. Yusarman, who turned 36 last month, was handed a life ban by the FA of Malaysia's Disciplinary Board (DB) during their investigations at Royale Bintang Seremban on Nov 24 and 25, 2011. Yusarman was said to have frequented a karaoke lounge at Dataran Senawang with 11 of his President's Cup players on two occasions to meet two unidentified men. The players apparently received RM300 on their first meeting and were later handed RM2000 in their second meeting. Read all about Yusarman on page 3 of The Malay Mail . By the way, it is 11 players from Negeri Sembilan and not six as informed earlier. Read more here . HD says: Apparently Negri Sembilan FA - for al...
