I must firstly thank the Sportswriters Association of Malaysia (SAM) for their continuous efforts to recognise the work of sports journalist in the country. I must thank those who still have faith in my work although I was informed certain officials refused to look at the stage when the Sports Ministry's secretary-general Mohid Mohammed handed me the trophy and a nice Nikon V1 camera for the Best Article (Print) Award 2012 for my article " Insurance bungle " that appeared in The Malay Mail on Jan 11, 2012 during the SAM-Sports Ministry Awards ceremony at PJ Hilton yesterday. And I must congratulate my fellow compatriots who were nominated and won awards in their respective categories. I am glad that through my writings, former Negeri Sembilan physiotherapist See Kim Leong's wife was able to obtain the insurance money after her husband passed away due to a heart attack on Feb 5, 2011 as seen here . This is in addition to the Best Special Report and Sportswriter...

Justice, finally!

It was the first death anniversary of the late See Kim Leong yesterday. I called Kim Leong's daughter Marianne See, who is based in Alor Star, and told her about the FA of Malaysia's (FAM) assurance that her mother Audrey McLeod will be finally getting the insurance money of RM50,000. I wouldn't have expected her to be overjoyed by the assurance. Relieved, maybe. Happy, certainly not. It was supposed to have been done a long time ago. Yet, Audrey was placed into much agony. Also, Audrey remembers the sum insured as being RM120,000 but now she's only getting RM50,000 - but she doesn't want to kick up a big fuss. Most importantly, she hopes to see the cheque in her hand. Only then she will consider this chapter closed. Let's wait and see. The full report is published in today's Mailsport . For those wanting to refresh their memory, read ' No Insurance '. HD says: Sigh...

"No insurance".

Here are the facts: 1. The 2011 M-League season started on Jan 29, 2011. 2. AmAssurance agent Ikhwan Ibrahim sent the FA of Malaysia (FAM) an invoice on Nov 27, 2010. 3. The first payment to the insurance company was only made in April, 2011. 4. Negri Sembilan physiotherapist See Kim Leong passed away on Feb 5, 2011. 5. Kim Leong's wife Audrey McLeod has not received a single cent as she was told her husband was "not insured". Players and officials in the M-League were not insured for the first four months of the 2011 season. Read the insurance bungle and a widow in dire straits in today's Mailsport. What if a national player had died on the field while playing for his state team or club? HD says: Enough of excuses lah.
