No help for former footballer V. Krishnasamy? Really?

Image
Can the relevant authorities like FAM or the Football Association of Penang do something to alleviate (V.) Krishnasamy’s financial situation? This was published in The Star's letters page today: https://www.thestar.com.my/opinion/letters/2019/04/19/former-national-footballer-in-need-of-help/ It is nice of Kok Foo Leong to voice concerns about his good friend and former national footballer V. Krishnasamy. That shows compassion and the desire to help a friend - a noble trait that must be applauded. But Mr Kok, the FA of Malaysia (FAM) has provided financial assistance to Krishnasamy not too long ago. Then FAM general-secretary (now president) Datuk Hamidin Amin had presented financial assistance to Krishnasamy on Feb 26, 2018. Read the full report here . In fact, a month earlier (Jan 18, 2018) the National Athletes Welfare Foundation (Yakeb) visited Krishnasamy. Berita Harian had then quoted Yakeb's general manager Zuhairi Abdul Manaf as saying: "Hari ini ...

Come on, FAM!

The article below appeared on the backpage of Sunday Mail . The words in red are strictly my views. By Vijhay Vick PETALING JAYA, July 12 — Perception matters and the FA of Malaysia (FAM) failed miserably at the executive committee (exco) meeting at Wisma FAM yesterday. Perception is known as persepsi in Bahasa Malaysia. Menurut Pusat Rujukan Persuratan Melayu Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka Malaysia, persepsi bermaksud bayangan, gambaran atau tanggapan. This comes despite president Tengku Abdullah Shah pledging to the exco, via a letter read by general-secretary Datuk Hamidin Amin, he would step down if Malaysia fail to qualify for the 2019 Asian Cup. Really?  This is what The Star's K. Rajan wrote in his article today: " He has pulled off a similar stunt before. Tengku Abdullah had resigned as FAM deputy president in 2007 after the national team crashed out from the group stage of the 2007 Asian Cup – without a single win. Three years later, in 2010, he was b...

What's the story BAM?

The national badminton scene seems to be hogging the limelight for the wrong reasons recently. The drama seen outside the courts is more apparent that what transpires during tournaments. The results of the players have not been satisfactory, but for men's doubles pair Goh V Shem and Lim Khim Wah who will play China's Chai Biao-Hong Wei in the Malaysian Open final today. Two years on, 'illegal' airstrip continues to operate

Image
In 2011, Free Malaysia Today revealed a plot of land belonging to Yayasan Selangor, a state government company, has been converted into an illegal airstrip in Hulu Bernam. The Nov 25, 2011 article read: "Last week, the state government’s select committee on Selangor government agencies, statutory bodies and state subsidiary companies (ABAS) made the decision to halt the operation of the airstrip dubbed “Bernam River Airfield”. The Star, in its article today , reports: "A multi-million ringgit project involving luxury bungalows with a private 1.2km-long airstrip in Hulu Bernam has become a subject of controversy after it failed to take off." The fact that the airstrip is illegal has been established in 2011. We get that. What is baffling is the fact that no action has been taken over the past two years since the matter was highlighted. Why? And even raising more eyebrows is the fact that the "Selangor Immigration and Customs departments say they are...

Too blessed to be stressed

An article by Soo Ewe Jin that appeared in The Star today. Sometimes, spending quiet moments alone in the garden can offer lessons that remind us to put things in perspective. WE all go through moments when everything is totally meaningless. There are days when nothing seems to go right, and we are overwhelmed by circumstances that we cannot control. On Friday morning, I woke up early, put the laundry to wash, and prepared my regular breakfast of two half-boiled eggs. I made myself a cup of coffee and remembered that the coffee had been sent to me specially by a friend in Kuantan. She is a cancer survivor and the road for her is not easy. She has to travel by bus once every few weeks to continue her treatment in another state but she never complains. She shares about how she takes morning walks on the beach front and the amazing views of sunrise bring her much cheer. I took my cup of coffee and sat on the swing in the garden. This swing was given to us by my bro...
