Hockey drama...part 2

UPDATE (5.00pm): Was The Star set up? Just received a statement saying, As MHF Secretary, I would like to reiterate my and MHF position that I/we did not communicate nor provided any of the facts as stated in The STAR newspaper today - http://thestar.com.my/sports/story.asp?file=/2011/10/2/sports/9617781&sec=sports At this stage of the matter, I would not or could not provide any statements because the athletes concerned had sought for the Sample B to be tested to reconfirm the results and in which could lead to prejudice to the matter. Any statement released by MHF must be fair and not be bias or damaging towards the club concerned and players involved. MHF will make the official announcement of the matter after fulfilling the procedures in accordance to the ADAMAS and MHF/FIH Anti Doping Regulations undertaken by teams and officials for the TNBMHL2011. Two hauled up for doping

Two UniKL players failed anti-doping tests as the Malaysian Hockey Federation will now decide on the next course of action. Read S.Ramaguru's full report as published in The Star here. All three players tested positive for the use of recreation drugs. The two players tested positive in the present case also used similar drugs. It is learnt that no hockey player has been caught for performance- enhancing drugs. Word on the street is that some of the younger athletes are hooked on recreational drugs. They just would like to goyang, goyang kepala especially on the weekends. Perhaps the National Sports Institute could select a larger pool of athletes during its random anti-doping tests and if proven, these athletes should be handed with heavy suspensions. Then let's see if their kepala will goyang. However, SS Dhaliwal believes it was a " it was a targeted test". Read MHF leaks here . HD says: Sigh!

Jaguh kampung

That's the image national doubles coach Tan Kim Her would like to shed. Many continue to claim our athletes are "Jaguh Kampung", champions in the country but drown among the best in the world. The only doubles pair who have tasted glory is Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong. But it has been sometime since they won any major title. The others have a lot of catching up to do. Will Kim Her's 'attendance book' concept ensure players take their trainings more seriously? Read Berita Harian's "Untuk negara bukan untuk kampung" today. Let's wait and see. HD says: 'Interesting' regulation.

Roving with Blackburn

Image
Some of our players enjoyed stints with several foreign teams including Chelsea and Cardiff City (recently). Another English club Blackburn Rovers is eager to be part of the picture as well. Three of our Under-16 lads will head to India next week. They will join a handful of players from Hong Kong and India to form a team and play in a 6-a-side tournament there. Five lucky boys will then be selected for an attachment programme with the Riversiders. Read today's Mailsport - Roving with Blackburn . Serbegeth Singh, or better known as Shebby, is Blackburn Rovers head of development in Asia and he extended the invitation to the good folks at the FA of Malaysia. HD says: It's all about marketing and branding.

Too much football will kill you

Image
That is what Kelantan team manager Azman Ibrahim feels when it comes to their goalkeeper Khairul Fahmi Che Mat ( pic ). Azman was quoted by today's The Star as saying; "The player deserves some rest ... I think he has been playing non-stop since the beginning of the year. We are not being selfish, we are just concerned about his future..." Read more of Eric Samuel's report here . There has been studies that " watching football can kill you ", " too much exercise can kill " and there's also Queen's Too Much of Love Will Kill You . Has Khairul Fahmi's "busy schedule" kept him on his toes, transforming him into the best goalkeeper in the country? Or will too much of football kill him? HD says : Queen's Freddie Mercury remains one of the best entertainer the world has ever seen. FYI, Freddie's real name was Farrokh Bulsara, hails from a family with Persian blood, was born in Zanzibar (an island off the coast of Tanzani...

Police report against Sports Commissioner

Image
Dear YAM Tan Sri TUNKU: Good day to you! Maybe, at yesterday's meeting, due too short a time, there appears certain muddling up on the MSBF's internal dispute. To avoid unneccessary speculation, I attach herewith our official version of the dispute which had since been reported to the police under the Penal Code and soon be filed in court for legal proceedings. If the interested parties represented by SCO and Melvin, they can certainly enter the defence either responding to the police investigations or by evidence adduced at the High Court proceedings. It was likwise reported to YB Tony Pua, MP for Petaling Jaya Utara constituency in which the MSBF office is once situated I have intentionally excluded the exhibits cited therein, to avoid the file capacity being over-sized but which can be easily retrieved for reference. Hitherto, SCO did not precisely cite that oyur MSBF does not exist; in fact, it has been an accredited as NSA of OCM ever since 1986. For proper o...
